POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT


POSITION: Assistant Veteran Service Officer
POSITION #: 17-54
DEPARTMENT: Veteran Services
SALARY: $3,166.00/Month (to start), Plus excellent benefits
CLOSING: Closes Oct. 20th, 2017 (5:00 PM)

DESCRIPTION:
Engage in outreach activities throughout the county to identify individuals that have served and/or family members of those that have served. Assist in getting these identified individuals and/or family members into a benefit appointment. Assists all veterans, widows and dependents in obtaining benefits provided for them by local, state and federal agencies. Knowledge of VA regulations and Adjudication procedures. Applying those regulations to the various programs offered through this office. Some knowledge of medical terminology is important. Ability to work under stressful situations and under numerous deadlines. Ability to handle individuals that are hostile and verbally abusive. Compassion when communicating with surviving spouses of Veterans. Good verbal and written communications skills required. Ability to prioritize work. Basic knowledge of other social agencies eligibility guidelines and the effect of VA benefits on those programs. Establish and maintain satisfactory relationships with individuals with veterans’ groups, government agencies and private businesses.

REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma or equivalent. Some counseling experience preferred. Ability to present to an audience. Willingness to reach out and engage entities in recruiting efforts. Knowledge of VA Federal regulations and forms. Minimum of one year general office experience. Ability to work independently. Current Oregon Driver’s License necessary. Basic computer experience necessary. Must complete veteran service officer training within one year of hire.
